Green Flash Brewing – Palate Wrecker, Imperial India Pale Ale

PalateWreckerThis month’s featured beer is something we’ve been trying to get a hold of for months, Green Flash Brewing’s Palate Wrecker. A popular Imperial India Pale Ale, from San Diego, California. Although if you’re in Virginia Beach this summer, you’ll find a big Green Flash Brewing Tasting Room and Beer Garden.

Palate Wrecker, as the name implies, is meant to be as hop forward as it comes. The brewery claims this is achieved using,

“A complex double-brewing process of mashing and sparging with hopped wort and special hop layering.”

Palate Wrecker rates incredibly well online, currently sitting at 92 points on Beer Advocate, and a whopping 99 overall at RateBeer.com

We also currently have Green Flash Brewing West Coast IPA.

Bodegas Brecha Garnacha de Fuego Rosé

roses

You’ll find our shelves are stocked with various Rosé wines for the coming summer months. Pellehaut, Touraine, Apothic, Layer Cake, and more. Our featured wine for April is Bodegas Brecha Garnacha de Fuego Rosé. Bodegas Brecha is one of several Spanish wineries that make up the Jorge Ordoñez Group.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded Garnacha de Feugo Ro 90 points.

“An absolutely spectacular rosé, the 2015 Garnacha De Fuego Rosé (my pick as a top value in dry rosés from around the world) is 100% Grenache rosé,..It has a light, almost neon-pink color and delicate strawberry and cranberry fruit notes, with a hint of pomegranate. It is fresh, lively, ripe, medium-bodied, and has more texture and length than one usually expects in a rosé.”

Garnacha de Feugo Ro is a great place to start your summer Ro experience. Ask our staff about our countless other Ro selections.

Founders Brewing Co.

foundersOne consistently popular item in our stores is the beers of Founders Brewing Co. from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Founder’s Breakfast Ale has been a hot item for growler fills, and a variety of six packs continues to fly off the shelves.

At the time of this post we have:

Centennial IPA – A dry hopped IPA, with citrus notes, and enough malt to make sure it “never turns too bitter”. 7.2% ABV

Harvest Ale – From Founder’s Specialty Series, this golden colored ale offers dominant hops and citrus. 7.2% ABV

Porter – Founder’s Porter has the chocolate and caramel notes you expect, but with hops too, for the “full flavor you deserve.” 6.5% ABV

Rubaeus – This Raspberry Ale is “sweet and tart” and available year round. 5.7% ABV

Imperial Stout – Brewed with 10 types of malt, this big beer weighs in at 10.5 % ABV.

Azacca IPA – From Founder’s Seasonal Series, a hoppy brew with citrus and mango notes. 7% ABV

Dirty Bastard – Last but certainly not least, the Dirty Bastard. This Scotch Ale has notes of smoke and peat. 8.5% ABV

Tellus Cabernet Sauvignon

TellusOur featured wine for March, Tellus Cabernet Sauvignon, comes from Italy’s Umbria region. This Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in stainless steel, then aged in “barrique” for six months. These uniquely shaped oak barrels were originally designed for Bordeaux wines.

The winemaker’s tasting notes include:

“Here, the climate is moderate but elevation is also important, so flavors lean to ripe black fruits and tell-tale herbaceous notes.”

James Suckling rates Tellus Cabernet Sauvignon 92 pts, calling it:

A firm, silky cabernet with chocolate and currant aromas and flavors. Full body, fine tannins. Attractive currant, rosebush and almond aftertaste. “
