GD Varja Barolo Albe

Looking for something exciting for your wine rack this month? How about a nice Barolo from Northern Italy? Village Beer and Fine Wine is proud to feature GD Varja Barolo, which is blended from grapes grown only in the Barolo commune. The wine maker describes Albe as one of their “most approachable and open Barolos” and one of their “best values”. While the winemaker states the wine ages well for 3 to 5 years, they also are quick to point out that it “is an absolute pleasure to drink now.”

Wine Spectator gives the 2008 GD Vajra Barolo Albe 94 pts:

The rose, strawberry and cherry aromas and flavors are beautifully displayed on the elegant frame in this pure and delicately wrought red, which shows harmony and depth.

Spring Seasonal Beers Have Arrived

With the last likely chance of snow behind us here in Rockville, its time to look forward.  And we have new spring seasonal beers arriving every week to help you out with that. Already on our shelves this month, we have Magic Hat Pistil Dandelion Ale and Sam Adams Spring Thaw variety 12 pack.

Magic Hat’s Pistil Dandelion Ale is a unique spring experience. The Vermont brewer describes Pistil as:

a refreshing, sun-inspired spring ale. A subtle floral spiciness from Apollo and Northern Brewer hops is balanced by earthy notes from dandelion leaves, while acidulated malts provide a smooth, slightly sour malty body.

Looking for a bit more spring seasonal variety? Pick up a Sam Adams Spring Thaw variety twelve pack and take home 6 different exciting beers: Alpine Spring, Double Agent IPL, Maple Pecan Porter, White Lantern, Irish Red and good ol’ Boston Lager.

And check back regularly to see what new spring beers are appearing on our shelves. Our seasonal selection is sure to come and go quickly!

Enamore for Valentine’s Day

For Valentine’s Day pick up something sexy and Argentinian – Enamore. This provocatively named wine comes from a winery nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Bodega Renacer.

Enamore is 45% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Bonarda and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards more than 50 years old, where they are dried on the vine until they lose 30% of their weight, then hand picked. After extended fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tanks, the wine is moved to new french oak barrels, where it sits for 12 months.

The winemaker’s notes:

Color: Clean and brilliant with ruby red tones

Nose: Presents notes of dried fruit, as well as red fruits like cherry and plum, floral hints with a presence of violet

Mouth: Round and elegant, persistent and well balanced sugar-alcohol-acidity

Wine Advocate gives Enamore 92 pts, describing it as a “full-bodied, layered, sweet and densely packed wine.” Show her (or him) just how “enamored” you are, with this innovative wine from Argentina.

Kona Aloha Series: Koko Brown Ale

The folks at RateBeer.com give Kona Koko Brown a score of 90 points overall.

Give this unique brown ale a try while you can, Kona Koko Brown is only available Winter to Spring.
