Brotherhood Riesling

Brotherhood Winery is located in the town of Hudson, NY, in the Hudson Valley Region. Its facilities include underground wine cellars dating back to the late 1830s. Being the closest winery to New York City, Brotherhood was among the first wineries to open their doors to tours, parties and events, drawing hundreds of thousands of people a year.

Village Beer and Fine Wine is proud to feature Brotherhood Riesling, which is featured on the White House Wine List. The winemaker’s notes:

“Our most popular wine, this Riesling has delicate aromas of pear, apple and fresh blossoms, and its off-dry character perfectly balanced by the crisp finish. Full-fruited with rich varietal character, this award-winning wine is a serious effort and yet a real crowd pleaser.”

Chateau Pesquie Terasses 2011

Chateau Pesquie is a family estate located in the Rhone Valley. Chateau Pesquie has proudly maintained “sustainable, responsible practices” for over twenty years. The vineyard uses only organic, humus-based fertilizers and prefers mechanical weed-killing to pesticides. Their main grapes are Syrah and Grenache, dominant varieties for the region. This month we are proud to feature a blend of those grapes, Chateau Pesquie’s 2011 Terasses.

The Wine Maker’s tasting notes:

Colour: deep ruby color.
Nose: intense nose with spicy notes(especially black pepper) and red berries.
Mouth: This very balanced wine offers very round tannins and fresh berriesaromas, with some floral and spicy flavors..
Food and wine pairing: Very easy to match. With simple dishes such as pizzas, kebabs, charcuterie, vegetable pies or salads to more ambitious cuisine like terrines, poultry, roasted or grilled meats.

The Rhone Report gives 2011 Terasses 91 points. “this brilliant value has no hard edges, silky tannin, and an elegant, ‘oh so drinkable’ profile.”

Lagunitas Sonoma Farmhouse Hop Stoopid Ale

lagunitas-hopstoopid-22oz-rockville-storeLagunitas Brewing Company was founded in Lagunitas, California in 1993. One of the fasts growing craft breweries, Lagunitas produces over 100,000 barrels a year, a number sure to increase with Lagunitas opening a new brewery in Chicago this year. Village Beer & Fine Wine is proud to stock our shelves with Lagunitas Sonoma Farmhouse Hop Stoopid Ale. This ale is brewed with hop extract, which creates “cleaner hop flavors”, according to the brewer.

Known for their off the wall lables, Lagunitas describes the hops extract and its addition to the wort:

The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete.

With a score of 94 on Beer Advocate, and a whopping 100 on RateBeer, Hop Stoopid is clearly popular with the hops fans. Stop by and pick up a 22 oz bottle today and experience Hop Stoopidity. But take your time sipping this one, with all that hops, and 8% abv, its got a kick to it.
