Bell’s Brewery – Two-Hearted, Amber & Oberon Ale

Bells-crop-wide

Customers have been asking for it for years , and now we’re finally able to bring you beers from Bell’s Brewery of Comstock, Michigan. Our first offering from Bell’s is a nice variety of three different styles of beer.

Bell’s Amber Ale – This is the flagship beer the brewer credits with their success, an American amber ale that Bell’s describe as “Toasted and sweet caramel malts balanced with herbal and citrus hop aromas.” 5.8% ABV

Two Hearted IPA – This is the brew our customers have been asking for, a single hop IPA, brewed entirely with Centennial hops. Bell’s adds hops at two stages during the brewing process, resulting in “pine to grapefruit” notes. 7% ABV

Oberon Ale – Just in time for spring, this seasonal wheat ale is brewed with only four ingredients, including Bell’s own ale yeast. Bell’s describes Oberon as having “spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas.” 5.8% ABV

Please Note: Oberon is not pictured above due to our first batch selling out before the photographer arrived!

Vinsacro Dioro Rioja

Vinsacro2

Our featured wine for April 2019 comes from Bodegas Vinsacro of Spain’s Rioja region. Vinsacro is a self-described “château-style winery,” with a barrel-ageing hall beneath the garden of Castilian courtyard. Vinsacro ages all of their wines for approximately 18 months, employing their arsenal of American oak, French oak, and a few Romanian oak barrels.

VInsacro Dioro Rioja is made from a variety of grapes, referred to as “100% Vidau” by the winemaker. Dioro is a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha.

Critics seem to agree that Vinsacro has a special wine in Dioro, with a 93 point score from Antonio Gailoni’s Vinous, and 92 point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.  Vinous describes Vinsacro Dioro Rioja so vividly you can almost taste it:

“Ripe black and blue fruits on the expansive spice and smoke-accented nose, along with suggestions of vanilla, candied flowers and cola. The oak qualities recede quickly on the palate… sappy, deeply concentrated boysenberry, black raspberry and spicecake flavors….”

A ringing endorsement indeed!

Craft Beer for Saint Patrick’s Day 2019

Here’s a selection of craft beers available for your Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations.

FlyingDogLuckySOB

First up from local favorite Flying Dog Brewery, we have Lucky SOB in six packs of cans. This Irish Red Ale is brewed with  English Ale yeast, Galaxy hops, Caramel and Irish Pale malts. 5.5% ABV

TallTalesRedHeadStepChild

Next up, also from the fine state Maryland, we have Redheaded Stepchild from Tall Tales Brewing Company.  This is a darker than average Irish red ale, while retaining the malty sweetness typical for the style. 6.5% ABV

Innis-gun-irish-scotch

We’ve got two exciting barrel aged beers from Scotland’s Innis and Gunn. The Original is a bourbon barrel aged Scotch Ale, but not typically aged. Innis & Gunn uses a proprietary process to get the “barrel into the beer”, bringing out “vanilla and toffee” flavors. And just in time for St Patrick’s Day, try Kindred Spirits, an Irish Whiskey barrel aged stout.

Emporium Appassimento

emporium appasimento

Our wine selection for March comes from wine importers Enovation Brands. In making Emporium Appassimento, winemakers sought to re-create an old fashion technique. Appassimento is a method in which grapes are dried to a shrivel state, to concentrate flavors. Emporium Appassimento is made with grapes from Salento, in Italy’s Puglia Region. The area is easily identified geographically as the “heel” of Italy’s “boot”.

The winemaker describes Emporium Appassimento:

“Aromas of raisins, dried cherries and savory cranberry. Focused, medium to full body with a bounty of fruit flavor. Smooth, long, earthy finish with papery tannins and moderate oak.”

The winemaker and reviewers seem to agree, Emporium Appassimento pairs well with just about anything!

JNSQ Rosé Cru & Gerard Bertrand Côte de Rosé

Betrand-JNSQ-Rose

If the special someone in your life is a fan of rosé wines, we’ve got a couple of perfect choices or valentines day, each in a unique bottle.

The first is an old favorite of ours, first mentioned in last year’s “Summer Rosés” – Gerard Bertrand Côte de Rosé. The bottom of each bottle of this French Rosé has a unique rose-like pattern to the glass. Inside is a Rosé that special someone is sure to love. Reviews of Gerard Bertrand Côte de Rosé typically describe it as light and refreshing.

This second Rosé is featured on our website for the first time, JNSQ Rosé Cru. If you’re unfamiliar, the JNSQ is derived from the french phrase “je ne sais quoi“, used to describe something unique and exceptional. With its signature white rose stopper and elegant shape, the JNSQ bottle is designed to resemble luxury perfume. This superior Rosé is made in the french style from California grapes.
