So which pumpkin beer is the best of 2014? So far Schlafly Pumpkin Ale seems to be most popular with our customers, but its still far too early to call a winner. Especially with the field of pumpkin beers constantly growing.

Bodegas Breca Garnacha

Bodegas Breca was founded in 2005  in the town of Mundobriga, Spain. The winery boasts 654 acres of old-vie Garnacha vineyards, planted between 1925 and 1968.

The winemakers notes:

“Breca consists of 100% Grenache…The wine opens to flavors of strawberries and black cherries as well earthy, dusty notes which display the character of the Calatayud region from which this medium bodied wine comes from.”

Wine Spectator awarded Brecca 90 points, their notes included:
“This dense red shows a savory character, with tar, ink and licorice notes framing the core of plum and meat flavors. Features firm, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Distinctive. Drink now through 2018. “

If you’re already a fan of Garnacha, Brecca is not to be missed. If you’re not familiar with this wonderful varietal, Brecca is a great place to start.

Left Hand Brewing – Mountain Mixer Variety 12 pack

Colorado’s Left Hand Brewery has grown from humble beginnings in the mid 90’s, to a popular multi-million dollar brewery, one of the Brewer’s Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers (2012). Not sure what all the fuss is about? Pick up a Mountain Mixer variety pack, a perfect introduction to the brewery.

Start off with Sawtooth Ale, the first beer the brewers released, way back in 1994. The brewer describes this American Style ESB as “Unpretentious. Sessionable.”

The brewer describes Polestar Pilsner as a “zest german-style pilsner with great biscuity malt flavor and a dry, crisp finish.”

For something a bit heavier try the Milk Stout, weighing in at 6% ABV, the brewer boasts “roasted malt and coffee flavor build the foundation of this creamy sweet stout. ”

And the true heavyweight of the variety pack, 400 Pound Monky IPA is “an english-style IPA with earthy, herbal hop notes, well-balanced by bready malt.” Or so says the brewer. Our customers seem to agree. We put these variety packs out recently, and they’ve been steadily moving off the shelves.
